Computer Requirements for Pacific Center Students

Because this is primarily an online program, students are expected to have a computer that meets minimum computer requirements. Students need:

  • Reliable access to a computer
  • Comfort operating basic computer programs and accessing the Internet
  • Comfortable operating Microsoft Word, including naming, saving and retrieving documents
  • A computer with sound and speakers capable of playing video from the web 
  • A high-speed internet connection (DSL or cable modem)

The following software applications are required for this program:

  • Microsoft Word (version 2007 or later) 
  • Internet Explorer (version 10 or later) or recent version of another Web browser (Safari 7; Firefox 25)
  • Adobe Acrobat reader (version 10 or later) — this is a free download from the Adobe Web site
  • Flash Player ( version 10 or later) — this is a free download from the Adobe Web site although this player is installed automatically if you are using Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

To test your computer to see if it is compatible with the program materials, please follow the instructions below:

1. When you are through reading these instructions, click on the link below to open and run the tutorial demonstrating how to use the program presentations.
2. If you get a Security Warning message, click on "Yes" to install the flash player.
3. If the Flash Player does not install automatically, then go to the Adobe Web site to download and install the Flash Player.

Test your computer by opening and running the presentation tutorial here. Close the tutorial when you are finished by clicking the "X" in the upper right hand corner of the window.
