Anderson earned his DDS degree and PhD in oral biology from the University of Minnesota. He joined the Dugoni School of Dentistry as professor of anatomical sciences in 2000. Since 2005, he has also held an appointment as adjunct professor of physiology and pharmacology at the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Prior to coming to Pacific, Anderson held faculty positions at Emory University and the University of Washington.
Anderson is actively engaged in NIH-funded research in the area of salivary physiology. He is also the recipient of several honors and awards for teaching, including the University of the Pacific Eberhardt Teacher/Scholar Award and the Pierre Fauchard Academy Dental Faculty Recognition Award. In fall 2008, he was appointed associate editor of the journal Archives of Oral Biology.
