Premier charity wine auctioneer David Reynolds of Reynolds & Buckley will entertain wine enthusiasts at the fourth biennial Vino De Mayo wine auction and dinner on Saturday, May 8 at The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco. An event benefiting the Kids in the Klinic endowment at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, Vino De Mayo generates funds to provide dental care, education and oral health prevention to socioeconomically disadvantaged children in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Honorary chairs for Vino De Mayo include Julio Bermejo of Tommy's Mexican Restaurant; Anthony Dias Blue, food and wine personality; Master Sommelier Fred Dame; John DeLuca, past president of Wine Institute; Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni, dean emeritus, University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry; Executive Chef Gerald Hirigoyen; Executive Chef Hubert Keller; and Congresswoman Jackie Speier. Dr. Michael Fox and Mike Carroll are the event co-chairs.
The hotel's terrace courtyard will be the setting for a reception and silent auction, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to taste wines from 11 California vintners, including Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Cakebread Cellars, Pride Mountain Vineyards and Justin Vineyards and Winery, while meeting the winemaker or proprietor. An elegant dinner, with wines paired with each course, and a live auction will follow in the ballroom.
The auction will showcase a variety of internationally and nationally acclaimed wines, as well as many unique prizes and experiences. Attendees will have a chance to bid on nearly 20 lots in the live auction and numerous silent auction items beforehand. Highlights of the auction lots include: 7-day luxury Caribbean cruise aboard the a brand new Silversea cruise vessel; a wine and dine trip to New Orleans, including hosted dinners at three premier New Orleans restaurants; and a weekend getaway for four to Pride Mountain Vineyards' charming guest cottage in St. Helena, Calif. Foodies will covet the gourmet auction items which include a dinner for eight prepared by Chef Gerald Hirigoyen in the bidder's own home, and an evening spent "behind the scenes" at Chef Huber Keller's landmark San Francisco restaurant Fleur de Lys.
University of the Pacific's Kids in the Klinic endowment is working toward its goal of $2 million to support dental care for children at the school's pediatric dentistry clinic. The clinic provides access to dental care for approximately 1,500 children each year. For many working families without dental insurance, regular care is an unaffordable luxury, and many patients have never seen a dentist prior to visiting the clinic.
