The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry's Alumni Association has announced that its executive director, Dr. David Nielsen '67, will retire this year.
"Dr. Nielsen's tenure at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry began over 30 years ago. David's vision has helped us evolve into the strongest dental school alumni association nationwide," Alumni Association President Dr. Artemiz Adkins '04 said in a message sent to all Pacific Dugoni alumni on Friday, April 4. "As he embarks on this new chapter in his life, please help me honor him for his many years of service to our alumni family."
Consistent with the bylaws of the Pacific Dugoni Alumni Association, President Adkins will be working with the association's executive committee and Dean Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr. in forming a search committee to help name the next executive director.
In addition to his most recent role, Dr. Nielsen has held a variety of leadership positions at the school over the past 33 years, including serving as associate dean and chair of the Department of Dental Practice and assistant dean for International Programs and Alumni Affairs. Dr. Nielsen himself is a graduate of the dental school's Class of 1967. His awards include receiving the Alumni Association's Medallion of Distinction, the highest honor bestowed by the organization on an individual, as well as the Distinguished Faculty Member Award from the Northern California Section of the American College of Dentists.
"Join me and the entire Pacific community in wishing Dave and his loving wife Ginger much health and happiness," said Adkins. "We are grateful for their many years of commitment to our alumni family."
