Commencement Weekend Activities Honor Class of 2014

DDS valedictorian, Kristina Rogers, addressed the Class of 2014.

Through laughter, tears and words of praise and gratitude, the Pacific Dugoni family celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2014 at commencement activities during the weekend of June 13-15. Commencement events marked the successful completion of a rigorous program of dental study and clinical practice.

IDS valedictorian Cristina Hernandez

Commencement was held at San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre on Sunday, June 15. Graduates in the DDS, IDS, AEGD, Dental Hygiene, Graduate Orthodontics and OMFS programs were presented with degrees by University Provost Maria Pallavicini and Dean Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr.  

Dr. W. Ronald Redmond '66 delivered the commencement address. Dr. Kristina Rogers, valedictorian of the DDS Class of 2014, and Dr. Cristina Hernández, valedictorian of the IDS Class, spoke warmly of their dental school journeys and congratulated fellow graduates on a milestone in their careers.

Alumni/Graduate Banquet

The Alumni Association officially welcomed the Class of 2014 into its ranks on Friday, June 13. Graduates and their guests were invited to celebrate with dinner, dancing and awards presentations at a black-tie event held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in San Francisco.

Activities included an introduction by Alumni Association president, Dr. Artemiz Seif-Adkins, and various awards presented by members of the school administration. Student leaders also addressed their classmates and recognized faculty and staff with awards voted on by the Class of 2014.  

At the end of the night, the Class of 2014 presented a record-breaking class gift of $60,318.45 to support the Pacific Dugoni Annual Fund.

Thanks a Bunch Brunch

Family and friends gathered at San Francisco's Four Seasons Hotel on Saturday, June 14 to share a meal and words of thanks. At the brunch on Saturday, June 14, graduates recognized the people who supported them through the challenges of dental school. Family, friends, mentors and loved ones received "Ph. T" certificates in "Putting him/her Through," as the school's group practice leaders read aloud graduates' notes of appreciation.  

Omicron Kappa Upsilon

Omicron Kappa Upsilon is a national dental honor society that admits only the top 12 percent of the graduating class. Members are voted into the honor society by current faculty members who make their selections based on leadership, character and scholarship. Inductees were recognized at a special dinner held on Saturday, June 14.

Phi Kappa Phi

Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 and is the oldest and largest interdisciplinary honor society in existence. Admission is by invitation only and requires both superior scholarship and good character as criteria for membership. The name Phi Kappa Phi comes from the Greek, Philosophia Krateito Photon, or "let the love of learning rule humanity."

Tau Kappa Omega

Tau Kappa Omega, a dental honor society, was established at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1927 in recognition of honor and service to the alma mater. Students are admitted on the basis of ideals, scholarship and character. At the end of the seventh quarter of study, the top 20 percent of students are selected for membership. The top 30 percent of the graduating IDS class are selected at the end of the seventh quarter.
