Each year the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry offers a variety of first-class activities during its annual Alumni Weekend, including opportunities to reunite with classmates, earn continuing education credits, honor alumni and celebrate philanthropy at the Legacy Ball.  This year, the school also wanted to offer alumni a unique chance to go behind-the-scenes of the school's future new campus in San Francisco.

Major exterior and interior renovations will soon begin on the structure at 155 Fifth Street in the South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood. To celebrate this milestone, the school hosted a "Construction Kickoff"-themed reception at the Fairmont Hotel on Friday, March 9.

Nearly 700 guests enjoyed themed cocktails, a photobooth with construction props, and a faux wall-bashing ceremony led by the new Alumni Association President Dr. Gene Santucci; Dean Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr.; University President Pamela Eibeck; and Dr. Stephen Rose '79, president of the Pacific Dugoni Foundation.

Attendees could sign their name on a commemorative signing board of dry wall to mark their presence at the beginning of an exciting stage of the project.

Building Tour

Alumni and supporters tour the new building at 155 Fifth Street.

The following day alumni were invited to tour the building. School leaders discussed floor plans, shared renderings and answered questions.  The tours were one of the final opportunities to view the interior space at 155 Fifth Street before construction begins. The new building is slated to open in mid-2014.

"Our alumni have all been part of the history of Pacific Dugoni, and we want them to have the opportunity to be part of the school's future as well," said Ferrillo. "I'm thrilled we were able to offer the chance for our alumni to celebrate this milestone and learn more about the project. I hope they will continue to stay involved as we move forward together into our future."
