The recent American Dental Association (ADA) Annual Session featured a variety of alumni gatherings organized by numerous dental schools around the country. The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry hosted its own alumni reception attended by nearly 500 people. The ADA Annual Session also provided an opportunity for increased networking among dental educators from around the world.
The Peking University School of Stomatology Overseas Alumni Association in North America invited Dean Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr., to give a special presentation during the association's Oct. 20 meeting held in Redwood City, Calif. Nearly 40 alumni from throughout the country attended the event.
Dean Ferrillo spoke about some challenges for global dental education and potential solutions to be addressed by schools. He discussed the International Federation of Dental Educators and Associations (IFDEA) and the growing number of online resources available for dental educators around the world through IFDEA. He also gave updates about the Dugoni School of Dentistry, including some of the collaboration the school has been pursuing with Peking University and other schools in China.
For example, earlier this year students from the Dugoni School of Dentistry visited Peking University as part of a student exchange program recently initiated by the two schools. Students from Peking University are also expected to visit the Dugoni School in San Francisco in the coming year as part of this exchange.
