Dr. Tom Bales '74B was recently elected president of the California Association of Orthodontics (CAO). The association represents more than 1,200 orthodontists currently practicing in the state of California.
CAO was founded in 1967 as a component organization of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PCSO). The association supports the provision of high-quality, ethical and accessible orthodontic care throughout the state of California. As CAO president, Bales will lead the association in its work toward advancing the art and science of orthodontics and supporting orthodontic research and education.
In addition to his CAO position, Bales also serves on the board of the PCSO and is a director of the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation, which provides grants for junior orthodontic faculty members throughout the United States. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Bales completed his DDS degree at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and his orthodontic residency at UCLA School of Dentistry. He currently serves as a volunteer member of the Dugoni School of Dentistry's DDS Admissions Committee.
Bales also runs a successful orthodontic practice with two Bay Area locations along with his daughter, Katie, also a graduate of the Dugoni School of Dentistry. She is currently a member of the dental school's orthodontic faculty.
