The California Society of Pediatric Dentistry has named Dr. A. Jeffrey Wood, professor and chair of the department of pediatric dentistry, as its 2008-2009 president. Wood will serve a one-year term and will help the organization in its mission to improve access to oral health care for children throughout California.
Founded in 1975, CSPD represents the pediatric dentistry specialty in California and is dedicated to education, practice and research. Representing more than 700 pediatric dentists, CSPD is the largest state component of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Wood is a distinguished educator in the field of pediatric dentistry and has been honored with the Golden Apple Award from the American Dental Association for outstanding mentoring of predoctoral dental students interested in academic careers. He is immediate past president of the Western Society of Pediatric Dentistry and recently completed a term as chair of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's Council on Pre-doctoral Education. Wood is a fellow of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
