Dr. Nejat Düzgünes, professor and chair of the Department of Microbiology, has been appointed to the editorial board of The Open Gene Therapy Journal. In this role, Düzgünes will be responsible for helping review research papers and soliciting articles from colleagues.
"I am honored to be recognized and invited to be on the board," said Düzgünes. "This recognition is the result of years of research carried out with the support and facilities of the Dugoni School and the University of the Pacific, and the hard work of our students and technicians, as well as the collaboration of many colleagues."
Appointed chair in 1991, Düzgünes is also the school's student research coordinator and serves as the director of the microbiology course. He has authored or co-authored more than 190 scientific articles, edited 10 books and is currently an associate editor for The Journal of Bionanoscience and on the editorial board of the international microbiology journal Archaea. His current research areas are gene therapy for oral cancer and HIV/AIDS therapies. He is the recipient of the International Association of Student Clinicians-American Dental Association Faculty Advisor Award and Pacific's Eberhardt Teacher-Scholar Award.
The Open Gene Therapy Journal is an international, open-access, online peer-reviewed publication which presents original research articles in all areas of experimental and clinical gene therapy research. The Journal's Web site address is http://www.bentham.org/open/togtj/.
