Dugoni School Goes Freewheeling with New Bike-Sharing Program

July  26, 2013

A new bike-sharing program launched by the school's Sustainability Committee is giving the dental school community a new way to have fun, stay healthy and get around the city in an environmentally friendly way.

Free bicycle rentals are now available to students, faculty or staff members on a first-come, first-served basis for up to five days at a time. The rental includes a bike, helmet and lock to secure the bike while it is not being used.

Requests may be made online by visiting the Bicycle Rental section of the Sustainability Committee's web page.  Failure to return the bike on time, or to return the bike in its received condition, may result in a fee assessed to the renter. Bicycles are kept in the bike rack cage on B-Level.

The Sustainability Committee is a volunteer group of faculty, staff and students with a commitment to making the Dugoni School an environmentally-friendly organization. Since its founding in 2010, the committee has been responsible for numerous campus events including an e-waste recycling event, reusable bag design contest, sustainability-themed film festival, bike tune-up day and many others.

The committee also works closely with its sustainability counterparts on the Stockton and McGeorge campuses. In 2011, University of the Pacific was issued a B+ College Sustainability Report Card by
