March  09, 2009

Steven Dugoni, D.M.D., M.S.D., a graduate of the dental school's orthodontic program and part-time faculty member at the school, has been appointed to the American Board of Orthodontics board of directors. In this role, he will serve as an orthodontic representative for the Pacific Coast region.

"Dr. Steven Dugoni is one of the most dedicated orthodontists we have on our faculty," said Dr. Robert Boyd, chair of the department of orthodontics. "His appointment to the board is especially fitting because of his work over several years giving preparatory courses for residents taking the ABO exam for diplomates certification."

Dugoni has practiced orthodontics in his South San Francisco office since 1981. He earned his masters degree in orthodontics at University of the Pacific's School of Dentistry in San Francisco. In addition to his private practice, he is an associate clinical professor at the dental school.

"Dr. Dugoni was selected for his extraordinary knowledge and skills in the area of orthodontics, but additionally for his passion and commitment to his specialty," said Dr. Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr., dean of the dental school. "We are fortunate to have him as a member of our faculty. His contributions, along with so many others, make this an extraordinary graduate program."

Dugoni is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists and the national dental honor society Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He is also a member and past president of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists and the San Mateo County Dental Society. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists and International College of Dentists. Dugoni has published numerous articles in dental journals and has lectured locally and nationally on orthodontic care.

Dugoni and his wife, Lisa, live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have two children, Emily and Patrick.

The American Board of Orthodontics was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. Its mission is to elevate the level of orthodontic care for the public by encouraging excellence in clinical practice and specialty education.
