The American Student Dental Association (ASDA) recently honored members of the dental school community with national accolades during the ASDA Annual Session held March 2-4 in Anaheim, Calif.
In honor of student-driven efforts to recruit, organize and communicate with student members at school, Pacific's ASDA Chapter was given the Ideal ASDA Award for Outstanding Membership and Communication.
Throughout the school year, the ASDA Chapter hosts numerous community events, fundraising activities and lunch-and-learn sessions. This year, the school also hosted a very successful American Dental Political Action Committee (ADPAC) Week, which brought speakers — including State Senator Leland Yee — to campus to speak about political issues on the local, state and national arenas.
ASDA is a national student-run organization whose mission is to protect and advance the rights, interests and welfare of students pursuing careers in dentistry. At the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, 100% of DDS and IDS students are members of ASDA.
Adding to the accolades for the Dugoni School community, Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni, dean emeritus, received the inaugural ASDA Paragon Award.
The new Paragon Award is ASDA's highest honor and recognizes an individual for dedication to organized dentistry and dental education. Dugoni was recognized for his advocacy on behalf of students, excellence in clinical practice, innovations in dental education and dedication to organized dentistry.
As a guest speaker at many ASDA national meetings, and continuous supporter of programs that build future leaders within organized dentistry, many students have experienced first-hand Dugoni's passion.
