The Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA) honored Dr. Paul Glassman, professor and director of Community Oral Health at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, with the Dr. Lawrence J. Chasko Distinguished Service Award on April 17. Glassman was presented with a plaque during SCDA's annual meeting held in Baltimore, MD.
The award is given to an American Association of Hospital Dentists (AAHD) member who has made noteworthy achievements which support and promote the mission and goals of AAHD. Glassman was chosen based on his character, dedication to the field and ethical standards.
A past president of SCDA, Glassman has been involved with the organization for nearly 30 years. He has been instrumental in improving access to dental care for people with special needs.
"I am honored to be recognized by members of the organization," said Glassman. "I hope this award helps highlight the need for hospitals to have services available for people with complex situations who require this level of care."
Glassman has published and lectured extensively in the areas of hospital dentistry, dental care for patients with special needs, medical disabilities, or dental fear and geriatric dentistry. In addition to being a co-director of the Pacific Center for Special Care at the dental school, he is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, a diplomate of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry and co-director of the Statewide Task Force on Oral Health for People with Special Needs.
