12th annual event to raise funds for dental care for underserved children.

May  08, 2009

University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is now accepting registrations for its 12th annual "Kids in the Klinic" Golf Classic to be held on Monday, June 29 at The Olympic Club in Daly City, Calif.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the dental school's Kids in the Klinic endowment, which provides funds for essential dental care to thousands of underserved children throughout the Bay Area and Central Valley.

At this event, the public has the opportunity to play at one of the premier golf courses in the country, while raising funds for a great cause. Participants can enjoy an 18-hole round of golf on the Ocean Course or the Lake Course, which has been ranked as one of the top courses in the United States. The Lake Course will serve as the site of the 2012 US Open tournament, having previously hosted the 1955, 1966, 1987 and 1998 US Open championships.

Golfers will enjoy good food along with their game. Lunch is served all day at the 9th hole and driving range, and the event also includes a cocktail reception followed by a dinner and live auction. Kids in the Klinic Golf Classic

"The Golf Classic raises valuable funds to improve the health of thousands of children," said Dr. Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr., dean of University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. "The need today for dental services for underserved families is greater than ever before. We invite the public to help put a smile on a child's face by getting involved."

Each year, the school's dental clinics deliver needed care at substantially reduced prices to children who could not otherwise afford it. Dental decay is one of the most common infectious diseases among children and more than 50 percent of California children have untreated tooth decay. Funds from the Kids in the Klinic endowment cover preventative care, treatment for cleft lip and palate, dental restorations, orthodontics and dental education.

Dr. Susan Bittner, an alumna of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, founded the Kids in the Klinic Golf Classic in 1997 to raise money for the Kids in the Klinic endowment. Today, the endowment is on its way to reaching its goal of raising $2 million.

Ticket prices are $395 (Ocean Course) and $495 (Lake Course); all tickets include dinner and auction. Admission to the dinner and auction only is $75. For more information or to register, call (415) 929-6403 or visit
