Dr. Nicklaus Morton Receives CDA Foundation Scholarship Award

Recipients of the Dental Student Scholarship with the CDA Foundation President Lindsey Robinson during the 2009 CDA Leadership Conference in March.

April  09, 2009

Dr. Nicklaus Morton, a 2008 graduate of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, received the California Dental Association Foundation Dental Student Scholarship for demonstrating responsibility, leadership, community and organizational involvement and strength as an individual and dental student. Morton accepted the award during the 2009 CDA Leadership Conference in Beverly Hills on March 7.

The CDA Foundation Dental Student Scholarship provides one recipient from each of the five California dental schools with an award of $6,000 to be used towards their dental education. Supporting student achievement allows students to not only succeed in their academic programs but also increases career opportunities in both traditional and nontraditional practice settings, such as clinics in underserved communities.

"I am so thankful for this generous scholarship," said Morton. "This award is just one of a long line of gifts that I have received from the CDA and I look forward to giving back as soon as I return [to California after my residency is complete]."

During his time at the Dugoni School, Morton showed leadership and dedication to dental education and the profession of dentistry through his involvement with numerous organizations. He served as the student body president and was a contributing editor to the student publication The Articulating Paper. He was a member of the school's nationally acclaimed Student Community Outreach for Public Education (SCOPE) program which provides education and care to underserved communities, and was a leader in Pacific's efforts with the City of San Francisco's Project Homeless Connect. He has been a member of the Academic Advisory Committee, the Dental Faculty Council Task Force on Ethics and Professionalism, the Search Committee for a new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Student Research Group and the Accreditation Steering Committee, and a student member of the Strategic Plan Implementation Committee. Currently, Morton is completing his Endodontics residency at the University of Florida.
