Pacific Dugoni Annual Fund Benefits the Dugoni School of Dentistry; Boosts the Future of Dental Education

July  07, 2011

The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry has announced that its annual fund, formerly known as the Dean's Fund for Excellence, has been renamed the Pacific Dugoni Annual Fund and rebranded with a fresh new visual identity.

The annual fund was established to help financially support the school's highest priorities and projects. The new name and look is part of an overall communications effort to encourage annual, recurring gifts from school supporters. The renamed Pacific Dugoni Annual Fund evokes the Pacific Dugoni family, a valued network of alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends who understand the dental school's rich heritage, goals and priorities.

Gifts to the annual fund directly benefit students, faculty, staff and patients. They allow the Dugoni School of Dentistry to remain on the forefront of dental education and continue its reputation as a leader in the field.

In recent years the annual fund has allowed the school to undergo technological upgrades and purchase classroom and clinical technology; remodel offices and classrooms; implement centralized sterilization and a new electronic clinic information system; and upgrade the oral surgery facility, among other projects.

"When alumni and friends entrust the dental school with unrestricted gifts to the annual fund, it allows us to take advantage of opportunities and to advance our greatness," said Dean Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr. "Annual gifts also keep the cost of tuition down by supporting the school's operating budget."

"The willingness of Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry supporters to give back to the annual fund is a strong measure of the Dugoni School's strength as an institution," added Dr. Daniel Tanita '73, newly named chair of the Pacific Dugoni Foundation's annual fund committee. "Increasing alumni participation directly translates to an increase in resources. In other words, as the number of annual fund supporters increases, so does the strength of the dental school and the Pacific Dugoni family."

Dr. Tanita will take the place of outgoing annual fund chair Dr. Stephen Rose '79, the dental school's newly named Pacific Dugoni Foundation Board President.

With many exciting projects and plans on the horizon, Pacific Dugoni looks forward to continuing to grow a successful annual fund under its new name.
