The American Student Dental Association honored the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry with its Ideal ASDA Award during the organization's 37th annual session held Aug. 29 through Sept. 2 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The award recognizes the best overall student body among competing U.S. dental schools.
ASDA, an entirely student-run dental organization, selects one dental school each year to receive the award based on six criteria: membership and communication, chapter organization, involvement with organized dentistry, activities, advocacy and fundraising. Pacific's 53 student outreach activities and 100 percent membership in its ASDA chapter helped garner the award.
ASDA also selected Pacific's quarterly newsletter, The Articulating Paper, as the best newsletter among competing U.S. dental schools. The Articulating Paper earned the top prize for its clean, efficient design, unique content and solid writing from numerous student authors.
"It's a great accomplishment to be recognized by our peers," said Nick Morton, class of 2008 and student body president. "Every one of our students contributed in some way-whether it was participating in organized dentistry, an outreach activity or the student newsletter. The humanistic values of our faculty and administrators are also a major factor in winning these awards. Without their support and respect, we would not have achieved such great success."
