The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) has recognized the ADEA chapter at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry as Innovative Chapter of the Year. This national honor recognizes achievements in leadership, chapter organization, membership and communication.

ADEA's presence at the dental school has been highly visible on campus, as Pacific's chapter has hosted and organized numerous activities throughout the year. It has also maintained a strong presence at national ADEA meetings and events.

This year, the dental school's ADEA chapter launched the Student Educators Group, which will help prepare 12 students for future roles as dental educators. It has hosted events such as a lunchtime lecture with Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni on the topic "Education as a career choice," and offers assistance and advice for students applying for positions in academia.

The chapter has also hosted events for students such as Future Educators Night, as well as the Dugoni Softball Tournament and Organized Dentistry Banquet in partnership with the school's American Student Dental Association (ASDA) chapter. A handful of ADEA students also sit on the dental school's curriculum committee, providing input on behalf of the student body.

Away from campus, student representatives have travelled throughout the country to attend ADEA national meetings and National Student Lobby Day in Washington D.C.

"Our school's ADEA chapter has had a very busy year with events, national activities and more," said Steven Alexander, Class of 2012 and ADEA Chapter president. "This award is great validation of the work we do here, and we're honored to be recognized as Innovative Chapter of the Year."

ADEA represents all dental schools in the U.S. and is the primary voice of dental education. Its mission is to lead individuals and institutions in the dental education community to address issues influencing education, research and the delivery of oral health care.
