The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry's international relationships continue to expand. Most recently, a group of dental students from Turkey visited the school for an opportunity to learn about U.S. dental programs, observe clinics and meet with students and faculty.
Ece Bildir, Nur Burcu Dutlu, Almira Ada Diken and Fatma Uslu from Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry in Ankara, Turkey came to the Bay Area to visit the school during the last two weeks of July. The group was invited by Dr. Nader Nadershahi, executive associate dean and associate dean for academic affairs, and his contact in Turkey, Dr. Tulin Taner, vice dean and professor of orthodontics at Hacettepe University. During a trip to Turkey last year, Dr. Nadershahi met with faculty, students and staff on a visit to Hacettepe University.
Second- and third-year students from the dental school served as hosts for the visitors. Their itinerary included tours of the school and clinics, a meeting with the dean, participation in classes and lectures, and observations of students and faculty delivering care to patients. Although learning about dental education was the main purpose of their visit, the Turkish visitors also spent time exploring sights and attractions in the city of San Francisco.
The Dugoni School of Dentistry has a growing network of international partnerships around the world. The Global Initiative in Dental Education (GIDE), part of the school's Strategic Plan, was designed to help elevate global dental education and health care standards to the mutual benefit of patients, students, staff and faculty. As part of this effort, the school has hosted exchange programs with students and faculty from schools in Asia, the Middle East and other regions of the world.
