More than 1,600 alumni, friends and special guests from throughout the country gathered for the 118th Annual Meeting hosted by the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry's Alumni Association. The event was held March 3-4 at the InterContinental Hotel in San Francisco.

The meeting, one of the largest gatherings of alumni by any dental school in the country, featured numerous continuing education courses presented by notable dental practitioners and educators.

This year's meeting featured a new format that included a plenary session Friday afternoon with inspiring remarks from guest speaker Jose Hernandez, an astronaut and former University of the Pacific regent. Additional speakers included University of the Pacific President Pamela A. Eibeck, Dugoni School Dean Nader A. Nadershahi '94, outgoing Alumni Association President Kimberly LaRocca '06 DH and incoming Association President Daniel Castagna '81.

Medallions of Distinction, the Alumni Association's highest honor, were presented to Dr. Dorothy Dechant, Melanie and Richard Lundquist and Dr. Ariane Terlet '86. The distinction is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the school, the Alumni Association, the profession of dentistry or society in general.

Friday activities also included a "talk to the experts" panel of Dugoni School Foundation members and other executives, offering meeting attendees one-on-one opportunities to discuss financing, retirement planning, purchasing versus starting your own practice, insurance and legal issues with specialists in those areas. The session was introduced by Dean Emeritus Art Dugoni '48 and moderated by Dr. Craig Yarborough ‘80, director of the Dugoni School's Center for Success.

On Friday night, ten DDS classes, along with alumni from the International Dental Studies programs, each held reunion dinners for class members to get together and socialize.

The reunion classes also held fundraising campaigns and presented their collective class gifts to support the school. The classes collectively donated nearly $2 million to the school's fundraising campaign. The top three largest class gifts came from the Class of 1977 ($571,593), followed by the Class of 1982 ($465,436) and Class of 1967 ($405,006).

The annual Legacy Ball celebration was held on Saturday night in the ballroom of the InterContinental. This year's event was inspired by the spring festival Nowruz, the Persian New Year, and featured live entertainment and dancing. Alumni, friends, donors, special guests and student leaders enjoyed the food, festivities and good company.

The Alumni Association thanks the many sponsors and contributors involved in supporting the event, which included Patterson Dental (Platinum Level), Align Technology, Inc. (Gold Level) and Ormco, Propel Orthodontics and 3M Oral Care (Silver Level). Additionally, drawing prizes were donated by Microcopy, Dentsply Sirona, Patterson, iSmile, Orascoptic, Ultradent, hope & grace Winery and the InterContinental Hotel.

"Our alumni network is one of the great assets of the Dugoni School," said Dean Nadershahi. "Thank you to all of our alumni who have stayed engaged with the Dugoni School family, attended our events and supported our people and programs. Together, we are stronger because of all of your support."
